These insects are not desirable because they breed so rapidly and the parasites that feed on cockroaches may also bite humans and pets. Cockroaches have also been known to carry various types of intestinal parasites such as tape worm and hook worm from eating animal feces.
Scorpions are of the greatest concern to humans because the Bark Scorpion is a venomous creature. They have small claws which means they have a harder time taking down their prey; the venomous sting is their primary form of attack and defense.
The last part I would like to address is the Black Widow and Brown Recluse spiders. Arizona is home to several different recluse spiders, but the dreaded brown recluse is not one of them. Black Widow spiders have a painful bite which may be harmful in children, the elderly and anyone with a compromised immune system. Healthy adults should seek treatment for a Black Widow bites and scorpion stings as a precaution.
